From this site there is a splendid view over Vic sur Cère and the valley. Here you’ll see the remains of a castle where Pierre de Vic was born, also known as the Monk of Montaudon, a troubadour famous for his humorous poetry.

This castle is privately owned but you can admire it from the outside, particularly its splendid staircase. It is famous because it is here that Marie Angélique de Scorailles was born. She was one of Louis XIV favourites and he gave her the title of Duchess of Fontanges.

This communal bread oven is in the heart of the mountain hamlet of Nierveze. It is beautifully preserved and covered in phonolite stone slabs. It is used to cook bread in June every year during a traditional village festival.
This small chapel overlooks the village of Thiezac and is famously known as the place where Anne of Austria once came to pray while she was in Vic sur Cère to take the waters. She was anxious at that time to provide an heir to the throne and a year later she gave birth to Louis XIV.
This church is typical of the architecture in the Carladès area and is well worth a visit while you’re here. You’ll be impressed by its rich decoration, its stone slab roof and its comb bell tower.
This Romanesque church dates back to the 12th century and has a single nave supported by buttresses. It is possible to visit the church. Ask the owners of the house opposite for the key.
