The position of this village makes it the ideal destination for hikers. Many marked-out trails here will take you to some of the magnificent sites in the Massif Cantalien such as the Puy Griou or the Plomb du Cantal.
The name of the village originates in part from its position along the Way of St James, the Chemin de St Jacques de Compostelle. As for the word “Blats”, there are two possibilities. - In Occitan it means “dark wheat” or “buckwheat” which was grown in the village. - Also in Celtic language it means “wolf”, animals that are known to have once lived in the area thanks to the presence of wolf traps at the Col du Pertus.
