Vixouze Castle is listed in the additional Inventory of National Historic Monuments. It overlooks the village of Polminhac and looks out over to Pesteils Castle directly opposite on the other side of the valley.
When first built, there was a keep used for defence and to keep watch over the valley of the River Cère. It was rebuilt after being partly destroyed in the Middle Ages. Under the reign of Saint Louis, Vixouze Castle, Pesteils Castle and the since disappeared, Foulhes Castle, were the only fortresses in the valley of the River Cère. The castle then underwent changes in the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries. The Pagès family of Vixouze were responsible for the main transformations. Today the castle is a venue for functions, weddings, seminars, etc.
