This château is a private residence, but you can admire it from the outside, especially its staircase. It's famous for being the birthplace of one of Louis XIV's favorites: Marie Angélique de Scorailles, to whom he gave the title of Duchesse de Fontanges.
From the 13th to the 16th century, the castle was inhabited by the Cropières and Montjou families. Today's castle bears little resemblance to the original military and feudal architecture. The former fortress was completely transformed into a large reception room. King Louis XIV gave his favorite a beautiful exterior staircase, which can still be seen today. Closed to visitors.
